Visit to Balasinor Jurassic Park, Gujarat, India
Rayoli, Balasinor is home to one of the largest dinosaur remains in the world. Balasinor is around an hour drive from Ahmedabad and Vadodara. Located in the state of Gujarat, it is named as “India’s Jurassic Park”
In an article published by The Geological Survey of India in Journal of The Paleontological Society of India, these fossils are preserved in the Lameta Group (Upper Cretaceous to Paleocene). The matrix adhering the fossils is very hard and it’s very difficult to safely remove a fossil.
The area consists of conglomerate, grits, calcareous sandstone and arenaceous limestone. This sedimentary succession lies over Godhra Granite of Pre-Cambrian age. Deccan Basalts lie over the Lameta Sedimentaries which have been eroded away in the study area where these fossils are exposed.
